A very gracious lady died at the West End Villa formerly of Ruskin Avenue in her 105th year on Monday, October 6, 1997. She was predeceased by her husband John R. Welch and is survived by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mackey and grandchildren Ruthmary Harris (Michael), Virginia Hamer (Douglas) of Windsor, Dixie Staples (Leonard), John Mackey, Dr. Thomas Mackey (Denise) of Perth and Mary Louise Routledge (Robin) of Duncan, B.C. Also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Welch was an honorary member of the Civic Hospital Auxiliary and a longtime member of St. Matthias Anglican Church, Ottawa. She will be remembered with great affection by all who knew her. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. at Richmond Road on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, from 11 a.m. until service time in the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery in lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute or to the charity of your choice.

In hospital on Wednesday, June 20, 1956, John Robert Welch, dearly beloved husband of Emily Bassett and father of Mary Elizabeth Mackey, aged 64 years. Resting at Hulse and Playfair, 315 McLeod. Service in chapel Friday, June 22 at 3 p.m. Interment Pinecrest cemetery.

According to the Ontario birth registration (1893 #005524), Emily Bassett (daughter of Richard Bassett, Billings Bridge, and Elizabeth Hale) was born in Nepean, 23 August 1893.
