According to Canadian passenger lists, Bjorn, Karitas, Sigrid, Stefan and Johannes (all born in Iceland) journeyed on the SS Grampian from Glasgow to Québec, landing in Canada, 29 June 1914.
By the time of the 1916 census, the HANSEN family was residing near Arborg, Manitoba.

In hospital, on Friday, Sept. 13, 1968, Bjorn Hansen, aged 82, beloved husband of Karitas Mattison, 1046 Pinewood Crescent; dear father of Mrs. Clair E. Grant (Sigga), of Ottawa; J. William, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mrs. John Niswonger (Maria), Las Vegas, Nevada; also survived by a brother and sister in Iceland; loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Resting at the Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Road, at Roosevelt, after 1 p.m. Sunday. Service in the Chapel, Monday at 2 p.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery.

HANSEN, Karitas (Kaja)
On Thursday, May 5, 1983, Kaja Mattisdottir, in her 102nd year, beloved wife of the late Bjorn Hansen and dear mother of Sigga (Mrs. C.E. Grant). Predeceased by sons Stephen Hansen and Vilhjalmur Johannes Hansen. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Road (between Island Park Drive and Woodroffe Avenue), 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral Service in the Chapel Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment Pinecrest Cemetery.
